World Summit on Sustainable Development

Johannesburg Summit 2002 – the World Summit on Sustainable Development – improving people's lives and conserving our natural resources in a world that is growing in population, with ever-increasing demands for food, water, shelter, sanitation, energy, health services and economic security.

MAJOR GROUPS AND THE SUMMIT

The World Summit is expected to be a lively and integrated forum of participation for representatives of the major groups. A large number of NGOs and other major groups are already involved in the preparations, and are planning to participate in the stakeholder events and activities expected to take place during Johannesburg 2002.

The innovative and unique Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue Segments of the Commission on Sustainable Development will be a part of the Johannesburg 2002 preparations and the Summit meeting itself. In addition, consideration is being given to organizing some of the plenary sessions as a series of partnership events with stakeholders. These could be in the form of dialogues and may include those of a multi-stakeholder nature. The details and topics of these dialogues will be announced once they are further clarified.
